Adding Quality to Life

    Jhansi Cantonment Board

Jhansi Cantonment is the oldest Cantonment of the country and the Cantonment Board has been playing a vital role in over all development of the Cantonment. Over the years the condition of roads, streets and parks has improved and people have facilities of uninterrupted water supply and primary health. Cantonment Board has been making special efforts to improve the condition of primary schools so as to provide quality education for children of the weaker sections of the society.Though enough has been done but there is long way to go. As far as improving civic amenities is concerned the residents of the Cantonment are welcome to give suggestions for betterment of the cantonment and should also see to it that garbage is disposed off at earmarked places only.

This portal is an attempt by the Cantonment Board to make comprehensible the complex terminology, rules and procedures to the residents of the cantonment so as to make them active participants in the process of governance in place of passive receivers of information from the government. Effort has been made in it to explain the frequently used jargons of the cantonment administration, like old grant, mutation, free hold conversion, GLR and composition etc.,in simple language which have remained incomprehensible since long for the residents of the cantonment. The website has also included several useful features like online search for birth and death entries, GLR entries, online birth and death registration and online complaints, enquiry, feedback etc.

With the departure of British in 1947 a great deal of change was brought about by the succeeding nationalist regime in both civil and military spheres but elements of continuity are still visible in the Cantonment Boards. Cantonment Boards have been instrumental in maintaining the distinctive character of the cantonments as it evolved during the 150 years rule of the British. This distinctiveness of the cantonments is largely the result of cantonment Act of 1924 by which cantonment Boards are governed today and which heavily draws from the rules and regulations evolved during the 19 th century.
